Rosa Hartley, Violin

British violinist Rosa Hartley became a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in 2025 and enjoys a multi-faceted musical career combining solo, chamber music, and orchestral activities.

“From the first time I heard the COE, I was struck by the clarity, freedom, and intensity of its music making. To now officially join this extraordinary group of musicians, who combine such a distinctive style with genuine warmth and generosity, is a dream come true. I look forward to many inspiring journeys together.”

She began playing the violin at the age of five. She studied at Chetham’s School of Music before continuing her training in London with György Pauk and Itzhak Rashkovsky, and later in Vienna with Ulf Wallin.

Recent highlights include recital appearances at Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, and on BBC Radio 3 In Tune, as well as concerto performances across the UK and in Asia. She is a regular guest at festivals including Prussia Cove, and has collaborated with artists such as the Doric Quartet, Mark Padmore, and Roderick Williams.

A recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society Isserlis Scholarship, Hattori Foundation Soloist Award, Rosa also won first prize in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition. She receives ongoing mentorship from Sophia Rahman, and has also studied with György Kurtág and Thomas Adès.

As an orchestral musician, Rosa has appeared as concertmaster of the European Union Youth Orchestra. She has also performed regularly with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and Spira Mirabilis.

Beyond performing, Rosa has a love of Italian cuisine and particularly enjoys finding cooking ingredients while on tour.
