New release: Brahms Symphonies (COE, Yannick Nézet-Séguin)

On Friday 12th July, Deutsche Grammophon released our recording of the Brahms Symphonies, performed at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus in 2022 and 2023 with COE Honorary Member Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The recording has so far been very well received by the international critics: “With a smaller orchestra than standard, Yannick Nézet-Séguin bring litheness without diminishing any of the symphonies’ power or clarity” and “The authority and the quality of the performances are unmistakable.” according to Andrew Clements from The Guardian. It was Album of the Week on Classic FM (week starting 15th July) and critic Remy Franck wrote an enthusiastic review in Luxemburg’s Pizzicato: “This recording has just about everything that makes for good and exciting Brahms: the drive, the breath, the articulation, the rhetoric, and all the composer’s heart-tugging lyricism.”

This is the fourth symphonic cycle that the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Yannick Nézet-Séguin have recorded together. The Schumann symphonies were released in 2014, the Mendelssohn cycle in 2017 and the Beethoven Symphonies in 2022. Aside from these internationally acclaimed cycles, Yannick and the COE have also recorded five Mozart operas and released three concerto recordings with violinist Lisa Batiashvili, as well as pianists Seong-Jin Cho and Beatrice Rana.
