Spring tour 2024

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe is looking forward to performing in Athens’ Megaron with Greek conductor Constantinos Carydis and pianist Jan Lisiecki this April, in a concert featuring soloists from the Orchestra – violinists Lucy Gould and Steve Copes and cellist William Conway. The programme in Athens includes works by Greek composers Koukos and Skalkottas, as well as Schnittke, Shostakovich, Ives and Beethoven. Joshua Bell then takes over in Murcia, Zaragoza and Ludwigsburg, directing and performing Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Brahms’s Violin Concerto (featuring an original Cadenza composed by Joshua Bell) and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.

Tour with Sir András Schiff – May 2024

We are delighted to be joined by our dear friend, and COE Honorary Member, Sir András Schiff this May for concerts in Eisenstadt, Hamburg, Bergamo and Ferrara, performing works by Brahms and Haydn. The tour will actually start with a chamber music concert in Eisenstadt as part of Sir András’s Building Bridges project, featuring  COE soloists violinist Lorenza Borrani, violist Nimrod Guez and cellist Richard Lester with pianists Martina Consonni and Itai Navon. In the next four concerts, audiences will be able to hear COE soloists oboist Kai Frömbgen, bassoonist Rie Koyama, Lorenza Borrani and Richard Lester in Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante.

Tour with Sir Simon Rattle and Magdalena Kožená – June 2024

Sir Simon Rattle and Magdalena Kožená join us this year again for an absolute musical feast, performing Dvorak’s Scherzo Capriccioso, Mahler’s Rückert Lieder, Bartok’s 5 Hungarian Folk Songs and Schubert’s “Great” C Major Symphony in Eisenstadt, Lugano, Evian, Ravenna and Athens. The special friendship between the COE and Sir Simon has been blossoming since their first project together, at the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic back in October 2020, and we are very much looking forward to this tour.

Baden-Baden 2024

The Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden is welcoming the COE and Yannick Nézet-Séguin for their annual residency, La Capitale d’Eté this July. This year, the Orchestra and Yannick will be joined by mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and pianist Seong-Jin Cho for two orchestral concerts. There will also be a chamber music concert featuring Yannick on the piano, as well as Joyce DiDonato and COE soloists.

Herbstgold 2024

For this year’s Herbstgold Festival at its residency in Schloss Esterhazy (Eisenstadt), the COE will be joined by Martha Argerich, Iddo Bar-Shai, narrator and daughter of Martha Argerich Annie Argerich-Dutoit and COE’s associate Leader Marieke Blankestijn for the Festival’s opening concert on 11th September, featuring works by Haydn as well as Saint-Saens’s Carnival of the Animals. On 14th September, the Orchestra will perform works by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky with Julian Rachlin, director of the Festival, and pianist Yefim Bronfman.
