Ida Grøn, Viola (Associate)
Ida Speyer Grøn has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe since 2001.
Ida grew up in Denmark playing the violin but at the age of 16 she fell in love with the viola. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with professors Josef Kodousek and Tim Frederiksen, performing her debut as a soloist in 1997. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Solo Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with professor Wolfram Christ. In 1996 she was awarded the prestigious Jacob Gade Prize. Following her studies, she became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and also worked with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
For over a decade Ida was a member of the Danish ensemble for contemporary music – Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen. As a chamber musician she is a member of the string sextet – Copenhagen Classic (who have recorded on the EMI label). In 2019 she broadened her horizons by winning a tenure position as principal Viola in the Opera Australia Orchestra.
Since 2009, she has been a full-time member of the Royal Danish Orchestra and in 2017 won her current position as Principal Viola.
As a soloist Ida has played with orchestras such as the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, The Danish Chamber Orchestra and the Copenhagen Philharmonic.
Her favourite place in the world is the isle of Samsø.
