Stephanie Gonley, Violin

I joined the COE in 1989 while still a student, having heard some concerts of theirs which left me in no doubt that this was where I wanted to be. Being a part of the COE was a musical revelation and a gift, not least working with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, which was unforgettable; he was an inspirational musician and teacher. It was very exciting to be a member of this ever-evolving orchestra.

Stephanie Gonley studied with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Ilan Gronich at the Hochschule Der K√ľnste in Berlin, and is now a professor of violin at the Guildhall and at Trinity College of Music. She has been leader of the English Chamber Orchestra since 1991 and has both directed and appeared as soloist with them throughout the world. She has also been leader of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since 2015.

Stephanie has appeared as soloist with most of the forerunning British orchestras as well as many abroad. Recordings include the Sibelius Concerto on BMG and the Dvorak Romance with the ECO and Sir Charles Mackerras.

As a chamber musician, Stephanie performs and records regularly with the Nash Ensemble.
