Release of Berglund box-set by Warner Classics (January 2024)
In January, Warner Music released a compilation of all of the EMI and Finlandia recordings with the Finnish conductor Paavo Berglund. The set features the COE’s Sibelius Symphonies released between 1997 and 2000. In Crescendo Magazine, Jean-Pierre Tribot says: “Paavo Berglund leads a lean ensemble which allows him to go deep into the work like never before. The sound gains in sharpness, flexibility and raw energy. Gone are the vast flat areas of color or overpowering tutti, but make way for a motricity and agility that completely reshapes the score. Of the three symphonic sets, it is by far the most exceptional in terms of radicality and the perspective it opens up on these symphonies.” The box-set is available to purchase on all main platforms – including Amazon.
