Josine Buter, Flute

Josine Buter became a member of the COE in 1985.

Born in Groningen, in the north of Holland, she started playing the flute at the age of 15. Three years later, she entered the Amsterdam Conservatoire where she studied with Abbie de Quant and took part in masterclasses with Aurèle Nicolet, PL. Graf and András Adorjan.

Following her studies, she became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Rossini Festival Orchestra in Pesaro. During her first tour with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in 1984, she performed the World Première of Prometheo by Luigi Nono, in Venice, conducted by Claudio Abbado.

Josine has worked with many Dutch orchestras and performed and recorded with many of the greatest conductors and soloists such as Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Paavo Berglund, Sir András Schiff, Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer. She recorded Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 with Thierry Fischer, Marieke Blankestijn and the COE.
