Maria Kubizek, Violin

Maria Kubizek was a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1992 to 2024.

Born in Southern Austria, she comes from a family of musicians. She studied in Vienna, Salzburg and London and was particularly influenced musically by Sándor Végh. A whole decade of her life was also spent working extensively with Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

As a concertmaster, soloist and ensemble leader, Maria has worked with a wide variety of austrian and european ensembles, mostly performing on period instruments, such as the Helsinki Baroque, the Styriarte Festival Orchestra, the RecreationBAROCK Ensemble, the Freitagsakademie Bern, the Concentus Musicus Vienna, the Wiener Akademie and Ensemble Zefiro, to name a few.

As a chamber musician, Maria works with artists such as Alfredo Bernardini, Christophe Coin, Lorenzo Coppola, Patrick Cohen, Nils Mönkemeyer, Richard Lester and many others.

Her discography includes recordings by H.I.F.Biber together with Christophe Coin on original instruments by Jakob Stainer; Violin Sonatas by W.A.Mozart on his father Leopold Mozart’s violin; all the piano trios by the siblings Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn; in 2023, she released a complete recording of all the works for violin and piano by Franz Schubert featuring pianist Christoph Berner. Her most recent recording is “Antonin Dvorak, Kammermusik aus der Neuen Welt” (“Antonin Dvorak, Chamber Music from the New World”) with his string quartet op. 96 and string quintet op. 97, featuring the ensemble “La Bande de la Loingtaine”.

In addition to her work as a violinist, Maria Kubizek has been very involved for the past 10 years in the intuitive sound work SIRA, which starts wherever words are missing, where young people in particular do not seem to fit into our social system, where talents and potentials are not recognized and achieved or chronic illnesses have come to a therapeutic standstill.
